Following along with the core values of the National Assocation of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), all Purdue University Calumet student-athletes are expected to participate in a number of community service projects throughout the year. Each athletic team is required to complete one team project per year, while also participating in Purdue Calumet's annual joint initiative with the United Way, the Day of Caring.
Among these activities are the Reading and Writing Club (R-Dub) in Hammond elementary schools; free clinics and involvement in after-school programs; cleanup, landscaping and painting projects at facilities and parks throughout northwest Indiana; and the use of athletics events to collect canned foods and school supplies, demonstrate appreciation for service men and women, and raise cancer awareness. The cancer awareness initiatives are highlighted by Dig for the Cure (Volleyball) and the National Basketball Coaches Association's (NBCA) Coaches vs. Cancer.
